Motorcycle Concours 2012

The world famous event held on the shores of Lake Como included motorcycles in the programme for the first time in 2011. The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este was established in 1929 and traditionally brings together automobile fame and beauty with the aim of choosing a winner for the year. The Concorso di Motociclette was inaugurated on similar principles. 35 motorcycles were chosen from collections all over Europe to represent a wide variety of machines from different eras of technical development and design ideas. The motorcycles selected ranged from lesser known models to famous racing and record-breaking motorcycles.

These motorcycles were presented on a spectacular stage in the park of Villa Erba and they attracted lots of interest from guests of the automobile events and the public visitors. An international jury subjected each motorcycle to a rigorous inspection before finally agreeing on the winner. However, as one of the collectors remarked, all the motorcycles on display should be regarded as winners because they have been selected to be part of the Concorso di Motociclette.

How right he was! The next Concorso di Motociclette will provide a very special event for all those people who are passionate about motorcycles. Once again, the centrepiece will again be the display presenting the motorcycles entered for the Concorso di Motociclette. Private owners and collectors are invited to submit motorcycles for selection. These will not simply be shown in a static display. 2012 will see a demonstration street run where participants will open the event.

Many more motorcycles will be discovered at the Villa Erba. Special themed exhibitions and the forum for motorcycle design will present models and prototypes from renowned designers and manufacturers in 2012. These displays will enable visitors to view the past and future of the motorcycle alongside. They will facilitate comparisons and discussions, as well as providing an arena where representatives from industry can meet the enthusiasts. The various players like designers and collectors have one common interest - the motorcycle. This machine unites them and gives “food for talk” and thought, especially in the wonderful setting on the shores of Lake Como.
